Palin picks Grussendorf for Juneau Senate seat

How can the Governor pick someone who recently changed their party affiliation to Democrat from Republican just to get the seat? This smells like a fix! How can the governor even come close to calling this not political. The Juneau Democrats stated who they wanted for the seat, but because the governor does not like this person, she figured a way to plant someone in the seat who will do her bidding.

Governor Palin started her era as governor with a pretty good relationship with Democrats. Now she is making it even more difficult to work with her. It's obvious she cares little about what Alaskan's think, it's all about what Queen Sarah wants.

Wow, what a week! It looks like the stock market may improve enough to be moved out of ICU. Sarah Palin continues to do things that make no sense.

Republicans in Congress must be nervous, It looks like the bills the Democrats have been passing since the last election cycle are turning the economy around. Unfortunately, the Republicans in both houses decided they don't like change and voted against every bill. They also have been coming out in public that they hope the President fails. They are doing their best to attempt to make this happen, but it doesn't seem to be working. Lets all hope that it is the Republicans in Congress and Rush Limbaugh who fail.

Now for the Alaskan Governor, Wayne Anthony Ross as Attorney General? She went from one extreme to the other. From the shy and intelligent Talis Colberg to the pompous, flashy W.A.R. My thinking is that she is looking for someone controversial to jump on the media grenade for her.

AIG and the Republicans Free Market Mentality

For years the Republican establishment has pushed the Free Market system "Keep government out of business way." They would say "Keep government from regulating companies." In Alaska we had a state representative that was against all government intervention into business. He would always say "let the markets take care of themselves." Well, during the Republican reign, we allowed that to happen. Business had free reign with little or no government intervention. Banks and insurance companies were not regulated. Airline regulators were buddy buddy with the airline industry and allowed maintenance records to be forged so the airlines could save money. Many companies cut services or cut personnel in order to make more money. The Financial industry decided to make riskier investments because the government wasn't watching them anymore. They figured the economy was going to keep going up. Banks gave loans to people who couldn't afford the loans. All this without government wasn't watching. Now after the economy has crashed, the Democrats have taken the White House and Congress and are in the process of writing new regulations for the financial industry as well as other industries, the Republicans are still holding out for no regulation stating their failed mantra. In other words, lets put more people out on the streets. Let's let more investors loose money because corporations decide to make risky moves that hurt their companies. They refuse to vote for the President's policies and are actually hoping the President fails. By doing this the Republican party is betting that the country fails. This is not good for the country! I hope they realize this soon enough.

Protesters at RNC Convention

It's too bad that the Anarchist protesters decided to use violence and destruction to get their message out. This will work against them and gains sympathy for the RNC. It's OK to protest, but respect other people's property. I have no respect for people or groups who damage innocent businesses or public property just to get attention.

Sarah Palin as Vice President?

I think that was the worst choice John McCain could have made. She has no experience and she doesn't know the issues. She has only been governor for less than two years. Before that, she was mayor for a small town (less that 9,000). Before becoming mayor and before she became governor, she was a stay at home mom. When she was running for governor, she never answered any tough questions. She either side stepped the question or the Lt Governor candidate would step up to the mic and answer for her. She's also under investigation for firing her Public Safety commissioner because he wouldn't fire her ex brother-in-law. I think Mr McCain brought her in hoping she would siphon off Hillary Clinton supporters who are worried about Barack Obama. But her views on abortion will hurt. Although she claims to be pro oil, she instituted the highest tax ever on the oil industry. She also wouldn't allow them to bid on a gas line project. Instead she picked a canadian company that doesn't even have the rights to build the gas line in Canada. It's highly unlikely they will get them, which will doom the project. Most in the state wanted to see an all Alaska gas line instead of one going through Canada.

First Post

Hello everyone, I recently moved to Northern Virginia from Palmer Alaska. Prior to moving I was Chair of the Matanuska Susitna Democrats. I enjoyed that position and met many good friends while I was chair.

There are many issues that currently confront Alaska. Some of those issues also affect the country. What to do about ANWR and all the leases that currently aren't being explored. Miining for gold close to waters that are rich in Salmon and vital to subsistance fishermen.

Alaska is also on the front lines of research into Global Warming. Many villages along the Alaskan coast are seeing the results as they are being battered by waves due to the loss of protective ice fields.

These issues as well as others will be discussed in this blog. So ensure your seat belts are fastened and your seats are in the upright position.
